First off, I wanted to say that this is an idea that’s been running through my head for a little while, especially after rewatching some episodes of season 2 and early season 3.
A HUGE part of me does not believe she is the person wearing the red coat or at least, not the only one. However, a few things point toward her IMO and I wanted to share my ideas with you.Red Coat made its appearance right after Jenna started seeing again.
Or should I say “started seeing fully again”? In the late episodes of season 2, gets a surgery for one of her eye (ep 2x23). Yet, in the end, she happens to actually see with both her eyes. We know she lied about her surgery being successful, why not about seeing (with one eye) from the start? Now, thing is, you don’t pretend to be blind for the sake of it. There has to be more to the story… It’s a great way to watch people when they think you can’t, blablablabla!
Jenna fits the body shape of Red Coat.Red Coat is thin, average side for a lady and has loooong legs. That does fit Jenna. I know it could also git Alison or Melissa (and Spencer but let’s not go there!! :O))
The night Ali’s grave was opened, Jenna picked up Emily.Well, nothing wrong about it until you realize that, according to Em’s flashback (and we know these flashbacks can’t always be trusted (you twisted lady, Marlene!) Jenna was wearing what seems to be a red coat and… black leather gloves. Usually, leather gloves and summer time aren’t really friends. We do know that Red Coat was also with Em when someone was digging up Ali’s grave. Jenna could have been the one to both drive Em and be at the grave. One more thing pointing toward her.
We did see Jenna mysteriously order someone wearing a black jacket to do something to the girls
Remember in the final of season 2 when we see Jenna giving something to someone in a park and mentioning how the four girls will be at the ball? Well, that’s something Big A would do. And that could easily be linked to the first time we see Red Coat, at the end of the episode, when she visits Mona. And it confirms what Em said about her in 3x18. Might all be coincidences though, right?
Jenna vs AlisonJenna was suspicious from the very first moment she was introduced to Ali in the Halloween episode in season 2. She obviously has a dark side too. She knew Ali even before meeting her and she was about to become a threat for her. She was confident, independent and wasn’t scared one bit by Ali.
The first person we see her get along with is Mona and her step brother is Toby…. Coincidence so far? Hm hm… In this same episode, we see Jenna talk with Wilden too and we know she also went to Cape May, where a bunch of things happened. Did she have something against Ali? Is she linked to Ali somehow?… Now to my next idea…Still in the Halloween Episode, the Lady Gaga costumes. Same person but different aspect/face? Does it point toward the idea of twins? Jenna was already wearing red, while Ali was wearing black. Red is the new black?
That scene was also the very moment that started the hate of Ali towards Jenna. The girl dared rejecting her offer to join her clique and unlike most other people, didn’t seem scared or intimidated by Ali. Well, maybe that’s because Jenna knew who she was dealing with.
Then, I am also thinking about the “Jenna thing” and how I’ve never believed Ali had actually wanted to target Toby. I am pretty sure she was afraid of Jenna, maybe because Ali had found out who she was? Maybe she thought she was the person sending the -A texts? Well, one thing is for sure: it’s the one incident that finally included the girls (indirectly, but still, they were there when Ali threw the firework) and led to Jenna being blind, or at least partially blind. One good reason to keep hating the girls for that.Lastly, the parallel between Ali as Vivi
an and Red Coat. Let’s keep assuming Jenna is Red Coat and that gives: the brown haired girl turning into a blond vs the blond haired girl becoming a brunette. Was Ali trying to pretend she was Jenna and conversely?
I’ve always wondered why Ali had chosen a red coat to spy on A? Seriously, that’s like the color that attracts the attention the most. Not exactly discreet for when you’re trying to be sort of invisible and watch people without them noticing. Unless she thought that person was blind? And therefore, red is then a color that fits Ali personality.
Somehow, Jenna, could have kept the idea of the outfit?
That’s where my brain is becoming confused. The obvious red coat points towards Ali/Vivian. Lots of things point toward Ali being Red Coat actually, at least to me. (and especially this interview when Troian says the supernatural thing about Red Coat.)
Are there two Red Coats? A good and a evil one? The same on the outside but with different purposes? (that would follow the Lady Gaga costumes symbolism)
If it wasn’t for Em remembering seeing her at Ali’s grave, I would have thought Red Coat was Ali looking after the girls. That’s the only thing that makes me think otherwise. Even with that, I still believe Red Coat is Ali but I thought it was interesting to notice that some things could also make Jenna suspicious.
